British automaker Aston Martin announced today plans to debut their Hybrid Hydrogen Rapide S race car at the 24 Hours Nürburgring.
The car is powered by a twin turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine prototype that Aston Martin developed alongside hydrogen tech company Alset Global. The engine is able to perform on gasoline and hydrogen gas, as well as a mixture of both. When running on pure hydrogen, the vehicle's CO2 emissions are nonexistent, making the Hybrid Hydrogen Rapide S the world's first zero emissions competition sports car and first hydrogen car to compete in an international race event.
Aston Martin CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez noted that the company, "has a strong track record of innovation and, with our superb history of competition and testing at the Nürburgring, it is only right that we showcase this amazing new technology at this year's 24-hour race."
The ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nürburgring takes place on May 19-20.
