Royal Enfield Continental GT Cafe Racer(Launch soon)
Showcased first in the 2010 Auto Expo the Royal Enfield Café racer created stir amongst the world automobile media and fans. RE again showcased the bike in the 2012 auto expo with improvements and a production ready model christened with the name of ‘Continental GT’. The Café racer displayed in 2010 Auto Expo was based on a Bullet chassis but the one displayed in 2012 is built on an altogether new chassis and the fit, finish on the bike suggests that this is very much going to be the production model. This is basically a bike born out of the retro road racing bikes of the 1960’s which were very popular in the European freeways amongst the youth. A Café Racer has basic elements which are marked by its elongated flat fuel tank, low and narrow clip on handle bars, rear set foot pegs, and a small humped seThe Royal Enfield Café Racer has all the styling elements that one would expect out of a café racer. Company has paid a lot of attention on the detailing of the bike, the switchgear, twin pod instrument cluster, new sporty looking exhaust and the rear view mirrors which are attached to the handlebars in a brilliant fashion. It sports an engine based on the UCE platform and is the same unit that powers the Classic 500, the 500cc unit churns out 27.2bhp at 5250rpm and a maximum torque of 41.3Nm at 4000rpm which with the stripped down Café Racer body and reduced kerb weight will be the fastest Enfield ever.
The bike has an all new, first for Royal Enfield, a “Double downtube” added with a “Double Cradle” frame. The new chassis with a new swingarm, rear Ohlins Gad filled rear shock absorber, front and rear disc brakes is going to be one hell of a package. There is no official announcement from the Royal Enfield officials about the launch date but expect this bike to be launched somewhere around the first quarter of 2013 and it should be priced a little under two lakh rupees.
