Android may be commanding the
lion’s share of the smartphone market, but Google’s appetite seems
bigger. Executive chairman, Eric Schmidt has recently posted on Google+,
a step by step guide, which tells users how to make the switch from
Apple’s iOS to Android. The guide contains everything from how to set up
your contacts and change your email into Gmail. It even tells you how
you can transfer your photos and music from the iPhone to an Android
phone.

In his post, Schmidt says, “Here are the steps I
recommend to make this switch. Like the people who moved from PCs to
Macs and never switched back, you will switch from iPhone to Android and
never switch back as everything will be in the cloud, backed up.”
1) The first step is to setup the Android device. To do this, Schmidt has the following steps.
a) Swith on the phone, connect to WiFi, login to your Gmail account when asked to do so.
b) Go to the Google Play Store and download your choice of apps.
c) If your Android phone needs a software update, then get that.
2) Step two is to update the iPhone or iPad device.
a)
Upgrade the iOS software. Make sure that you are logged into your Gmail
on the iPhone or iPad that you are upgrading before starting the
upgrade.
b) Before the upgrade, sign up for the iCloud to backup your data.
c) Sync your Gmail contacts on the iOS-based device.
d) Turn off iMessage
3)
The two points above are things that you knew how to do. Here’s the
next bit though. According to Schmidt, you will now have your choice of
apps and your contacts on the Android phone. If you don’t, then you can
move the contacts from your iPhone to a Mac PC. Here’s how.
a)
Open apple.com/icloud on the PC and login using your Apple ID. Then
choose contacts. Select all and export them into a vCard that can be
downloaded onto the Mac.
b) Now open gmail.com in a browser and
choose the contacts option. Import the vCard onto your Gmail account.
Delete or merge duplicate contacts.
4) Next step is to transfer your music.
a) On the Mac PC download Google Music Manager and connect your music to it.
That’s
it! Now you have your contacts and all your music on your Android
device. The Google Music Manager automatically syncs the music with your
Android-based smartphone. All you need to do now is put the SIM card
into the Android phone and start using it. In case you have a nano-SIM,
you’ll need a micro-SIM adapter for this purpose.
